Twelfth House is a journal of poetry and nonfiction founded in the summer of 2014. Our name comes from astrology, where the twelfth house is understood as the house of the "collective unconscious." Historically, the twelfth house was associated with secrets, hidden meanings and self-undoings. Now, it governs how we think we fit in the world. It reflects our capacity to see the little in the big. While we are not a themed journal, we like writing that engages with the ethos of the twelfth house. We like to be surprised so we publish surprising writing. Show us new ways to intuit.
The editors read all submissions.
Caleb Washburn is the founder and poetry editor of Twelfth House. Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are all in his twelfth house, which is one grizzly bear of a bad omen. His recent work has appeared in The Atlas Review, The Fairy Tale Review,The Journal, The Laurel Review and VINYL among others.
Rachel Wilkinson is the nonfiction editor of Twelfth House. She has Neptune sending smoke signals all throughout her twelfth house, which supposedly makes her super psychic. You can find her work in The Atlantic, The Atlas Review and Narratively.
Cody Dickerson is the managing editor and journal astrologer of Twelfth House. Both his Sun and Moon are on cusps, which makes him a good candidate for talking about the Twelfth House and the fractured self. He blogs about astrology and tarot at The Left Handed Way. He is the author of the Tarot guide, the cipher of the ancient messenger.
Michelle Lin is a poetry reader at Twelfth House. Her recent work has appeared in or is forthcoming from Apogee, Quaint Magazine, Powder Keg Magazine, Adrienne and more. You can find her online here.
